John Fitzgerald Kennedy was President of the United States of America from 1961 until his assassination. Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev was First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers from 1958 to 1964. Khrushchev was removed from power and replaced by Leonid Brezhnev in 1964. Kennedy and Khrushchev each led their respective countries during a brief but tense standoff known as the 'Cuban Missile Crisis.'
