In Sea of Monsters, Percy and Annabeth trick Polyphemus by baiting him with the name of his arch rival 'nobody' which is what Odysseus used initially to bait the monster. Thinking that he has another shot at 'nobody' Polyphemus focuses on that, allowing the others time to escape.
