Chillingworth is the ultimate villian. Not only does he mistreat Hester, but he kills Pearl. He also creates a type of psychological manipulation so that Dimmsdale ends up tortouring himself over the events that transpired. Chillingworth leaves chaos, heartbreak, and trauma in his wake wherever he goes.
