The "Navajo Plague" was first noticed when a woman named Florena mysteriously died after elective surgery. It is again in evidence when her fiance comes down with a similar illness on the day of her funeral. Different theories as to the origin included a problem with the piñon nut harvest, the Navajo lifestlye, and the increase in rats as a result of the harvest, which caused excess rat droppings. When tested, the droppings were confirmed to have contained a virus.
