The teaffic car becomes a metaphor for romance. When Frank wrecks the main traffic car, Daisy begins her temporary career as traffic reporter in the station's backup traffic car. Steve accompanies her for two hours the first day and attempts to show her how to broadcast from the car. Feeling that she fails to grasp the technical nature of the job, Steve also shows up at her house that night, under the guise of showing her more about the job and the various pieces of equipment that she finds in the traffic car. In truth, he already feels attracted to her and hopes to gain her interest in return.
