Class friction is a recurring idea. Much of the Part II discussion of Socialism examines the question of why many among the middle class espouse Socialism while very few among the working class espouse the doctrine. After all, the middle class benefits from capitalism at the economic expense of the working class and widespread Socialism could only better the lives of the working class at the economic expense of the middle class.
