In Act III, Scene I, Jack plays the part of the contrite son, who has seen the error of his ways. He tries to convince Sir Anthony that he is willing to go along with whatever his father believes is best. Sir Anthony's suspicions of Jack's sudden change is demeanor, foreshadow the later unraveling of the tangled web that Sheridan is weaving.
