Describe symbolism in The Ring by Karen Blixen

Lise's wedding ring is intially a symbol of unity.... as the story goes on, however, it becomes a trinket, given in exchange for a life. The ring's absence from Louisa's finger later symbolizes the negative transformation of her marriage.
