Action vs. luck is a theme in the story. People often wish that lady luck will smile on them and give them all their heart's desires. Unfortunately life does not work this way and people are rarely blessed to be handed a large sum of money with no strings attached. That is not to say that luck does not exist. Some people play the lottery daily but never win; others buy a ticket one time on a whim and are rewarded with a large jackpot. The difference between these two types of people is in their intentions. Those who purchase a lottery ticket on a regular basis often hope that they will hit 'the big one' so that they will never have to work again. They are looking for the easy way out of life's problems.
