The poem contains rhyme, as poems used to regularly - Lines 3 and 4, for example. It has personification of the Rhodora, to whom the whole poem is read as if it can understand - Line 9, "Rhodora! if the sages ask thee why". It also has alliteration as in Line 5, "purple petals".
