This epic depicts the very wealthy sitting around playing cards while discussing those less fortunate. Pop insinuates that wit, or the definition of wit, should not include elevated language and metaphor....both of which are readily apparent in this tale. He purposely does this to indicate that this is a satirical piece written about the vanity of those in positions of power and wealth.
