Although most of the novel is set in Rome, Annabel drifts from place to place within that city. She splits her time between her new flat and her hotel room. She visits a morgue to identify Frederick's body and a hospital to visit Danya, one of the unexpected guests who appeared at the flat on the evening of the suicide. Although Annabel officially has a flat, her move into her new home is incomplete.
