Who is Henry VIII from The Prince and the Pauper and what is their importance?

Henry VIII is the King of England and Edward Tudor's father. He is described as a fearsome monarch, who is ill and close to death. Henry loves and is committed to his son, even when he thinks the boy has lost his senses. He even insists that after his death, Edward should be crowned even if he is insane.
