Hugh Hendon is Miles' younger brother. He is described as a devious and treacherous man, who is only loved by his father. When Miles is sent away, Hugh creates evidence that he was killed in a foreign war. Then he forces his cousin Edith to marry him for her fortune. When Miles returns, Hugh claims that he is an imposter. When his treachery is exposed, however, he deserts his wife, and goes to another country, where he dies.
