Satire is another theme to consider. Erasmus wrote The Praise of Folly on his way from Italy to England. He tells Thomas More in the preface letter that serious writing could not be done while traveling, and so he proposes to focus on something lighter - satire. The Praise of Folly is widely regarded as one of the classic works of satire in Western history. It lambastes the political, social, religious and cultural practices across society, occupation and class in early 16th century Europe.
