The Poison Tree is a poem written by William Blake, so right off the bat, you know that it is going to be loaded with metaphors, themes, and the full menu of poetical flavorings. As plotlines go, a man is upset with a friend of his, and when he admits to his friend that he's been angered, the anger goes away and they are friends again. However, later, the man ends up being angry with another man who becomes his enemy. Instead of telling the man that he is angry, he swallows his anger and it grows into an apple. It manifests on an apple tree in the narrator's garden. Later at night the enemy sneaks into the garden and steals one of the apples from the tree. When he eats it, he falls dead....the apple was poison.
