What is the theme in The Plague by Albert Camus?

One major theme in the novel is that of exile, particularly the state of exile. The people of Oran, both visitors and citizens, are quarantined together. They are terrified of the illness, mistrustful of each other, and terrified at what could happen as a result of being locked in.
