The main conflict in Poe's Pit and the Pendulum is that of man vs man. Literally, one man is at the mercy of another group of men....so you could also state that it is man vs society. Additionally, it is man vs self as he has to stare at the instrument of his own demise while it creeps closer to his heart and cutting him apart.
