Vanity Fair is where all sorts of hedonistic pleasures can be found, bought, or sold. Den of iniquity and all that. They all tempt Christian. Obstinate tries to tempt Christian into turning around but ends up being stubborn about it. Pliable does not go away with obstinate, but rather decides to travel with Christian for a little while. Help offers suggestions to Christian for how to get out of the Slough of Despair and warns him of things yet to come. Faithful is the most helpful because this trait is the one that allows Christian to make it through horrible trials and Christian learns that following Faithful that God will reward and rescue those who can remain this way.
