Sam Weller was a handyman and boot cleaner at London's White Hart Inn before he becomes Mr. Pickwick's personal servant and closest friend. Sam is described as an honest, virtuous and loyal man, who protects Mr. Pickwick from the many people who try to take advantage of him.
