Who is Bob Sawyer from The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club and what is their importance?

Bob Sawyer is one of Ben Allen's friends. He is a medical student. Over the course of the novel, we learn that Bob wants to marry Arabella..... not because he loves her but because he wants her dowry. Unsuccessful is his attempts to win Arabella, Bob and Ben eventually make their way to India where they become successful surgeons.
