The Priest was a "graying, aging man with an old skin and a young sharp eye. Children he considered these people, and he treated them like children." He encourages his congregation to submit to authority, and when he hears about Kino's luck, he tries to remember whether he has done service to Kino's family and calculates how far the Pearl might go toward repairing the church. The priest makes a special visit to remind Kino of his duty to the church.
