What is the author's style in The Orchard Keeper by Cormac McCarthy?

There is an obvious disparity between the narrator's language and the language of most of the book's characters. The narrator speaks grammatically and even with a sophisticated vocabulary. His sentence structure is not strictly conventional and he makes frequent use of sentence fragments for effect.
