In The Once and Future King, Wart (Arthur) hates being bullied by his older foster brother, but he takes it because he knows that he is adopted. Kay is a bully and doesn't hestitate to point out that Wart is not really of royal blood (of course that joke's on him). Wart assumes the role of squire because he believes that he doesn't have the guts to be a knight. He says that he thinks he is a born follower.
