How is Tahiti important to Strickland?

When Strickland arrives in Tahiti, the only possessions he carries are his paint box and a bundle of canvases. Tahiti immediately feels a sense of belonging.... the feeling that he's home. For Strickland, Tahiti is the place his soul has longed for all his life.
