How does the author use foreshadowing in The Member of the Wedding?

In Chapter One, Part Two, F. Jasmine meets that red-haired soldier, who she doesn't view as any kind of threat. Her nonchalance, however, informs the reader that the soldier is, in fact, dangerous to her.
