Who is Yukiko from The Makioka Sisters and what is their importance?

Yukiko is the third of the four Makioka sisters. She remains unmarried despite many attempts by the family to match her with a suitable husband. Every time a prospective marriage seems like a possibility, the man is rejected by the main house or by Yukiko herself. Yukiko is in her early 30s but appears much younger than she looks.
