Celebrating one's uniqueness is a theme. The Little Prince is a reminder of how important it is to be true to one's self. It is filled with examples of "grown-up" characters whose exaggerated focus on a specific thing or a concept causes them to lose their originality and live as rats on a treadmill. Each of the characters the little prince meets while traveling the galaxy represents an adult whose innate talents are impossible to discern. Each has put such focused energy toward a single-minded purpose that he cannot now be seen as anything but a caricature. There is no way to tell what hidden talents or passions any one of them might have developed if they had been less narrow-minded in their approach. But as it is, each is consumed with such a small part of the adult world that they are stunted in their humanness and are nothing but bores to the little prince.
