Black Wolf is Christina's adoptive father. His wife and son have been missing for almost a year, when she returns to the village with a white child she has adopted. Black Wolf, who hates the white man, refuses to participate in the child's rearing, but he says that she doesn't seem to realize that he is ignoring her. When he is on the verge of rejecting the child altogether during a council meeting, his son engages Christina in a "game" and says, "My papa," to which Christina immediately replies, "My papa." She then takes a seat in Black Wolf's lap, prompting his acceptance of the child to be raised as his own until time for her to return to the "white man's" world.
