In one scene, Elbert drags Lyon's shoes outside to the porch at Lyonwood, announcing that Christina ordered him to do so because she plans to divorce Lyon. Elbert says that Christina's symbolic gesture indicates that Lyon is "cast out, pushed aside, forgotten, dead in her heart."
