Benjamin is Mordecai and Judith Levy's oldest son and Ernie's father. At his birth, he was such a tiny thing that the family nicknamed him Mosquito. After the pogrom (organized massacre) kills his older brothers, Benjamin is seen in a new light..... he is the only male family member left to carry on the Levy's line of Just Men. Benjamin then departs Zemyock, traveling first to Berlin and then to Stillenstadt, where the Levys live for many years. He has little belief in the legend of the Lamed-Vovnik and is perplexed when Ernie shows signs of strangeness.
