Who is Wayne Kennedy from The Key to Midnight and what is their importance?

Wayne Kennedy is an employee of Alex's security firm. When Alex calls his office and asks for the files on Lisa Chelgrin to be sent to him, he requests that a field agent bring the files himself. When Wayne Kennedy arrives outside Alex's motel in Kyoto, he is run down by a car. A man jumps out of the car and attempts to take the suitcase that has the files inside. Wayne manages to fight off the man. When the ambulance comes, Wayne will not allow anyone to touch him or the suitcases until Alex arrives to take custody of the files. Finally Wayne allows the ambulance attendants to take him to the hospital. On the way to the hospital, Wayne asks Alex for a promotion.
