What is the author's style in The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood by James Gleick?

Gleick is a former journalist, and he provides a perspective that is accessible to the general reader. His writing goes beyond the mostly descriptive journalistic perspective, however. He also offers interpretation and explanation from the perspective of someone who is optimistic about technology and its benefits. Gleick completes his book with a forward-looking perspective in which he imagines that we will find new ways to communicate and manage the enormous amount of information available.
