Walter Lippman authored the book Public Opinion, in which he worked to differentiate internal and external images. He defines the word "stereotype" as a kind of "simplified pattern". Boorstin asserts that stereotypes are a kind of pseudo-event, and that they are also a form of "propaganda". He says that generally pseudo-events seek to embellish while stereotyping tends to narrow.
