The main conflict in the section titled, A Rice Sandwich, revolves around Esperanza's desire to eat lunch at the school canteen. Esperanza asks her mother to write a note and send her lunch..... her mother doesn't want to do so, but she does as Esperanza asks. Esperanza is later chastized for the nuns because she lives too close to school..... they then point out her her house which embarrasses her.
