How did the death of Ranofer’s father cause his life to change?

After his father's death, Ranofer was forced to live with his half-brother, Gebu. His brother forced him to work endlessly and hand over all of his pay. He is threatened with being thrown out of the street if he doesn't comply. His life has tipped upside down after his father's death. He has no home and no love.
