There are numerous settings for the action of the novel as the characters and action move from place to place. The actions begins at Nui Ba Den, an Army camp in Vietnam referred to as Foo Two because it is totally surrounded by the enemy. The Americans stationed there know it is only a matter of time before Hanoi tries to eliminate the camp. Other scenes in Vietnam take place at Soc Trang, the Marine base that is under attack when Parker's sabotaged Mohawk goes down leaving Parker a prisoner of war at the Hanoi Hilton. The action returns to Vietnam again at the end of the book with the rescue of the prisoners at the Hanoi Hilton.
