How does the author use foreshadowing in The Feast of All Saints?

In Section Six, when Marcel discovers his mother was the daughter of a slave, he begins to understand why she is always pushing him away from physical work and wants more for him. This discovery also prompts him to take more of an interest in Lisette, foreshadowing the development of a relationship that comes out later in the story.
