The horror of the Holocaust was not seen as clearly in this book as in some others but the underlying story of the atrocities against the Jews was evident in the survivors' testimonies during Eichmann's trial. The stories included the young man who willingly boarded a train but was pushed off the train by his mother before they reached their destination. That young man said he'd suddenly been filled with the will to live, to escape the death he was certain awaited him.
