Titus Livius is the author of The Early History of Rome: Books I-V. The exact year of his birth is unknown. Titus was a native of the settlement of Patavia, which later became known as Padua.

Little is acually known about Titus' life. What is known, is that he was both fortunate and typical enough to be amongst the educated people during his adulthood, and that he is the author of his history of Rome. Livius was often criticized for his provincial manners, particularly that of speech. It is also well known that he wrote works of philosophy, which were most likely modeled from the dialog tradition of Plato, whose works had already been known for three centuries.
