The tone is one of confusion and resignation as fellow apprentices experience difficult spiritual times and question his aptitude to be their new Nagual. All are experiencing disquieting and confusing moments of déjà vu. Carlos and la Gorda in particular use "dreaming" (always italicized when indicating activity in heightened second awareness) to recover fragmentary memories.
