Who is Penny from The Deep End of the Ocean and what is their importance?

Penny serves as the facilitator for the Compassionate Circle. Her four year old son, Casey, was shot in the back of the head by his father. Working with the parents of children who've been victimized has provided Penny with some health and stability in her own life.
