Who is Jill from The Deep End of the Ocean and what is their importance?

Jill is Pat Cappadora's cousin. She assists Beth with the childen and acts as a sort of nanny to them. Jill is with the children when Ben disappears at the hotel. Later, she is with the family often in the afternoons and provides a great deal of comfort and care for Vincent, who is virtually ignored by his mother.
