What is the main conflict in The Color Purple by Alice Walker?

The main conflict in the story can be found in the way Celie is treated by the various men in her life. The abuse she is forced to endure, which includes physical, sexual, verbal, and emotional abuse, leaves her no more than a shell of a woman. This conflict directly results in her desire and determination to find her identity.
