Theo is the protagonist of the story. Dr Theodore Faron, or Theo is a flawed character. He is an anti-hero without anything to look forward to. He is cold and distanced from others, perhaps something brought about by his relationship with his father, who died from stomach cancer after a three-year illness. He tries to find meaning with Julian and her son but Theo's anti-social traits get in the way.
