In The Child Who Favored Daughter, Walker uses third-person narration to tell the story. The point of view changes in this story several times. In the beginning of the story it gives the young daughter's perspective and then changes to the father's perspective. However, for the majority of the story, the father's point of view is portrayed. In addition, Walker tells her tale in three chapters. In the chapters themselves, Walker breaks up the flow of the story with excerpts of a poem.
