In the section titled, Roundtrip On An Expressway, Lije meets his new partner for the murder case, R. Daneel Olivaw. This is a strangely rare circumstance, as Lije has never worked with an non-human officer before. In context, this initial meeting foreshadows Lije's growing discomfort, as he is intimidated by the fact Daneel, a robot, might be a better police officer than himself.
