The Friar though supposedly a devout religious individual is anything but pious. Pledged to a life of poverty, he is obviously wealthy. Moreover, he has not taken his vow of chastity to heart, either. He is usually depicted as a balding man, wearing a robe, riding a very nice horse, overweight, often drunk, spoke with a lisp.
