Romance is a recurring idea in the story. Daniel is inexperienced in the feelings of love and romance at the beginning of the story. Therefore, he is slow in realizing the reasons for his attraction to Thacia, and somewhat rejects them because there is no place for these feeling in his quest for the revenge of his parents. In place of romance, Daniel sees the women in his life to be the cause of many of his personal downfalls. He often reflects on this inner theory, and uses it as a shield to ward off his feelings for Thacia.
