With only some exceptions, most of the stories in "The Best of Roald Dahl" take place in England, the country where Dahl lived most of his life from a young age. Time periods are usually not mentioned, but most stories can be assumed to take place in the present as far as the time they were written. It is the country he is most familiar with, and by setting his novels there, he gives a glimpse into the intricacies of English life throughout the twentieth century.
